An Angel

Every day people are born and people die.

Human beings come into this world and leave it, most without their name being immortalised in any history books.

Millions of people have lived and worked and loved and died without making any great claims to fame or fortune.

But they aren’t forgotten, not by their friends not by their families.

And some of these people, some very special people, are not forgotten even by those who hardly knew you.

Liz was an amazing lady full of great class and style, when she came to see me after my conversation with her son Calum, I was delighted to help make her day the most perfect day, one to remember always.

Liz was poorly, we all knew this but my goodness on her wedding day the only word that could describe her was an amazing peacock!

She walked through the front door of the Lodge looking incredible with her beautiful blue velvet dress, gorgeous slim figure, newly blow-dried hair, and a little make-up not that she needed it as her skin was glowing, a radiance I will never forget

She was such a beautiful lady…

Douglas wore his kilt and his fabulous dusty pink jumper, the wedding colours symbolised sweetness, sentimental and a little romantic.

They were so well matched.

Calum’s Words ( Liz’s Amazing Son )

I had worked at 100s of beautiful weddings at The Lodge on Loch Goil over the past 10 years. Watched graceful brides and loving families enjoy the happiest days of their lives.  17th of November 2017 was a very happy day of our own. This time my family got to see The Lodge from the other side.

My mother and stepfather were getting married.

Alice and her amazing team put together an incredible wedding on such short notice.

Just two weeks earlier I called Alice and asked for her help. My mother had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and wanted to create a day of happiness by marrying her partner of 20 years.

Alice took care of everything and organised the perfect day all with such speed.

On top of this, Alice refused to accept any payment for the full wedding.

The Lodge hosted us in the most fantastic fashion with private use of the venue, champagne, canapés, and a gorgeous wedding banquet.

It was a celebration of love with no room for sadness.

My mother looked amazing, boasting about her great skin, the result of weeks of strong steroids topped off with a splash of champagne. It was an incredible day and one of the last days where my mother was well enough to leave the house.

A month after the wedding my mother passed away.

Thank you to Alice and everybody at The Lodge who gave us a day full of beauty and precious memories.

Douglas’s words ( Liz’s Husband )

On 17th November 2017, Liz and myself were married at The Lodge on Loch Goil in the famous treehouse, celebrating our love after 20 years.

Liz was in fact terminally ill having been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on 6th October 2017.

Calum her son, had worked at the Lodge for a period over ten years and Alice and Iain offered to host our wedding without charge, an extremely generous offer that was gratefully accepted.

In view of Liz’s illness, we only had a few guests attending the wedding my son Gillan and Calum and his partner, Tuk came as our witnesses.

After the ceremony, we enjoyed a delicious lunch served in the library.

The Lodge’s team made our wedding day so wonderful.

After the wedding, I produced a book of our wedding photographs which was given to Alice and Iain as a thank you for them to remember this special day.

They were delighted with the gift.

The Lodge’s team made our wedding day so wonderful.

Liz very sadly passed away six weeks later on New Year’s Eve 2017.

Alice

Liz had been chair of the Cormonachan Woodlands Association.

In Carrick Castle, her last wish was that instead of flowers at her funeral, family and friends should donate money towards a Contemplation Shelter in Cormonachan Community Woodlands.

At her funeral on 20th January 2018 and immediately afterwards, over £7,000  was donated to her cause that was enough to build a suitable structure in her memory.

The project was completed in May and officially opened on 6th June 2018 by her husband Douglas and one of Liz’s close friends.

The site was Liz’s favourite view in the woodlands overlooking Loch Goil.

Iain and I are members of the association and great admirers of Liz and all the work she had done for the woodlands over 20 years.

Some People come into our lives and quickly go, some stay for a while and leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never quite the same.

Liz was one of these ladies.

When someone you love becomes a memory

The memory becomes a treasure

The light will always shine brightly in memory of Liz

Goodbyes, Are not forever

Goodbyes, Are not the end

It simply means I will miss you

Until we meet again…
